![]() The plant nutrient contents and humic acids in vermicast were analysed. The experiment was terminated when 70% of rice straw had decomposed. The vermicast produced was collected periodically. Ten earthworms were introduced into each vermibin containing grinded rice straw. This experiment was carried out to compare the efficacy of Perionyx excavatus (PE) and Eudrilus eugeniae (EE) in vermicomposting rice straws. In order to harness the potential of earthworms in vermicomposting, selection of earthworm species that are able to consume large quantity of waste, and moreover, produce vermicast with high nutrient content is important. Vermicomposting is proven to be an effective way for nutrient cycling, converting large quantities of organic waste into value added product (vermicast).
